Zoom Ships First USB DSL Modems

Boston, MA, September 11, 2000 -- Zoom Telephonics Inc. (NASDAQ: ZOOM) announced today that it has released its USB ADSL modem for high-volume production and has shipped samples of the released product to several top-tier ADSL service providers.

"USB is ideal because it's fast and easy to install. Most ADSL installations require the end user to first open their PC to install an Ethernet card. With Zoom's new USB ADSL modem the user simply plugs the modem into the USB port and lets the easy-to-use Zoom software guide him through the rest of the installation process. For large service providers like America Online and Earthlink, Zoom has created an even easier installation option that can be tailored to their service."

Zoom's USB ADSL design has successfully completed extensive testing for performance and compatibility at an industry recognized independent test facility. Successful testing at this facility is commonly a prerequisite for evaluation by major ADSL providers.
