Global
Village™ CableModem for Macintosh Ships to CompUSA and
Fry's Boston, MA, October 2, 2001
— The Global Village CableModem Model 6011 is now shipping
to CompUSA, Fry's Electronics and other retailers of Macintosh
products. The Model 6011 includes a CableLabs™ and @Homesm
certified Ethernet cable modem, Ethernet cable, Norton Personal
Firewall™, Norton Antivirus™, and Lemke's GraphicConverter.
This is believed to be the first cable modem designed specifically
for the Macintosh. The Global Village Model 6011 works
with Macintosh OS 7.6.1 or later operating systems, including
the new Macintosh OS X. The kit's cable modem installs easily
by plugging it into the Ethernet port of an appropriately
equipped Macintosh computer. Norton Personal Firewall
for Macintosh software monitors all Internet connections,
logging and alerting the user to attempted intrusions by hackers.
Firewall protection is especially important in an intrusion-vulnerable
"always on" cable modem connection. Norton
Antivirus for Macintosh is the best selling software of its
type; and can find and repair infected files, including e-mail
attachments. The program's LiveUpdate™ feature automatically
updates virus definitions over the Internet, either at the
user's manual command or on a predetermined schedule.
Lemke's GraphicConverter is a graphics manipulation and conversion
utility. Apple Computer's online magazine describes the program
as "one of the most popular…applications ever created
for the Macintosh." "Zoom Telephonics purchased
the Global Village brand in the year 2000 as a top brand for
Macintosh communications," said Frank Manning, President
and CEO of Zoom Telephonics. "The Model 6011 extends
the product line with an outstanding Internet access product.
We've included a fully approved cable modem and the best Macintosh
firewall on the market, and we back it with Macintosh technical
support specialists. The product is being sold through a select
group of the top Macintosh retailers." The estimated
U.S. retail price of the GlobalVillage CableModem Model 6011
is $199. About Zoom Zoom Telephonics,
