Zoom Begins Shipping ADSL 2/2+ Modem
with Built-in Wireless-G Router, 4-port Switch, and Firewall
Boston, MA, March 31, 2005 — Zoom Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:
ZOOM) today announced its first shipments of the ADSL X6,
the first Zoom ADSL modem to include ADSL 2/2+ and the first
to include wireless-G capability. The built-in Wireless-G
router easily networks with computers and other devices incorporating
the 802.11g and 802.11b wireless standards. The built-in
4-port switch makes it easy to plug in computers or other
Ethernet devices, and an advanced firewall protects the X6
and connected devices from hacker attacks.
The X6 (Model 5590) works with all popular ADSL services,
including ADSL, ADSL2, and ADSL2+. ADSL2/2+ increases the
modem’s maximum data rate to 24 megabits per second,
provides an ADSL connection over longer phone lines, and
provides other features including improved power management
and improved diagnostics
Computers, gaming devices, and other wireless clients can
access the X6 using either 802.11g or 802.11b. Unlike most
wireless routers, the X6 has Prism NitroTM to increase
throughput up to 50 percent in 802.11 g-only networks, and
up to three
times in networks with both 802.11g and 802.11b devices.
Wireless security includes both Wired Equivalency Protection
(WEP) and the newer, more powerful Wi-Fi Protected Access
(WPA).
The X6’s built-in four-port Ethernet switch makes it
easy to plug in computers, game stations, switches, hubs,
and HomePlug devices.
The router built into the Model X6 provides shared Internet
access for up to 253 concurrent users. An integrated firewall
provides security from Internet hackers with Stateful Packet
Inspection (SPI), Packet Filtering, and Port Scan Detection
and Prevention.
Remote management is provided to network administrators
through Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). “We’re pleased to be shipping one of the most advanced
ADSL gateways in the industry,” said Frank Manning,
Zoom’s President and CEO. “The X6 is an outstanding
value, and we are seeing strong demand by our customers.
This is the first of both a new generation of wireless and
a new generation of ADSL2/2+ products from Zoom.”
