Zoom Launches ComStar Communications Center
V.34 FaxModem With Voice Mail Plus Full-Duplex Speakerphone

Boston, MA, November 13, 1995 - Zoom Telephonics (NASDAQ: ZOOM), a leading manufacturer of faxmodems, announced at the Comdex trade show in LasVegas, Nevada, that it has begun shipping its new ComStar line of faxmodems. ComStar products provide PC users with the most comprehensive set of analog phoneline management capabilities on the market today.

"ComStar is a complete communications center for IBM PC-compatible computers, providing extensive voice mail capabilities, faxmodem features, and a high-quality, full-duplex speakerphone in one easy-to-install single-slot card," says Frank Manning, President of Zoom Telephonics. "Companies, small offices, and home offices will find ComStar to be a significant advance over basic faxmodems with our ad vanced feature set that many knowledgeable buyers will soon demand."

ComStar features the convenience of hands-free full-duplex telephone conversa tion, professional-quality conference calls, full-featured faxmodem capability, digital answering machine, voice mail, Radish VoiceView alternating voice and data, and a convenient speed dialer. The top-of-the-line model features Digital Simultaneous Voice and Data (DSVD) capability, which enables users to engage in an uninterrupted voice conversation while a data transfer simultaneously occurs during the same phone call with another DSVD modem.

All ComStar models come complete with high-quality plug-in external microphone and speaker, and BitWare voice/fax/data communications software for Windows 95 or Windows 3.1.

"The ComStar product is a showcase for the multitasking communications capability Windows 95 can deliver," says Manning.

Setup is straightforward. ComStar is automatically Plug and Play configurable with Windows 95 on Plug and Play compatible computers and can be software-configured in other Windows systems.

Three ComStar models are available. Model 610 provides V.32bis 14,400 bps data transfer speed; Model 620 provides V.34 28,800 bps data speed; and Model 623 provides V.34 28,800 bps data speed plus Digital Simultaneous Voice and Data (DSVD). All models provide full-duplex speakerphone capability; all support VoiceView, which is featured in Windows 95; and all provide 14,400 bps Group 3, Class 1 and 2 fax capability for sending and receiving high-resolution faxes at the PC. ComStar also provides patented Zoom distinctive ring capability and Caller ID.

ComStar requires a 386 or faster PC-compatible computer with 1 available ISA slot, 4MB of RAM (8MB preferred), a 3.5 in. floppy drive, hard drive with 5 MB available, and Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher. A mouse is recommended.

The ComStar line is priced competitively. Street prices for the Model 610 are expected to be in the $120-130 range; for the Model 620 $200-220; and for the Model 623, shipping in early December, $250 to $270.
