Zoom Shipping New ComStar™ XT SVD Speakerphone/FaxModem
Easy to Install External for PC and Macintosh® with Simultaneous Voice and Data

Boston, MA, February 14, 1997 - Zoom Telephonics, a leading manufacturer of computer communications equipment, is now shipping the Zoom® ComStar XT SVD external speakerphone/faxmodem for PC-compatible and Macintosh computers. The ComStar XT SVD combines a full-featured 33,600 bps V.34 modem, AudioSpan™ simultaneous voice and data (SVD), a full-duplex speakerphone, 14,400 bps fax, voice mail, speed dialer, plus support for the ITU H.324 videophone standard.

"The ComStar XT SVD is ideal for home or small office use," said Terry Manning, Zoom's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "The SVD feature is perfect for application sharing, whiteboarding, and interactive game playing. With SVD, users can send data and talk at the same time when connected to another SVD modem."

The ComStar XT SVD external features serial Plug-and-Play compatibility for fast installation and provides extended status reporting with 14 indicator lights. Internal ComStar SVD products are also available for PC-compatible computers. All ComStar models include a high-quality external microphone and speaker, and all necessary software.

The new Zoom/Link™ CD-ROM, which contains over 425 megabytes of software, is included with the PC version of the ComStar XT SVD. Zoom/Link includes Internet Made Easy™ , other Internet and online services software, modem-enabled games, advanced telephony applications, support information, and more. It features an attractive graphical user interface for easy, intuitive navigation.

The ComStar XT SVD and all other Zoom SVD products include VoiceView® compatibility, Distinctive Ring to automatically discriminate data, voice, and fax calls, Caller ID, and ZoomGuard™ lightning protection. Lightning is the number one cause of modem failure. Recent results from an independent lab demonstrate that ZoomGuard is superior to the MOVs (metal oxide varistors) used in competing modems.

The suggested retail price of the ComStar XT SVD is $199. The Zoom ComStar line is available through dealers, VARs, and national distributors including Ingram Micro, Tech Data, and MicroAge.

Zoom Telephonics designs, produces, and markets products that link people and their personal computers through the world's largest network, the international telephone network, and connected networks including the Internet and corporate local area networks. Zoom products are distributed worldwide. Zoom Telephonics is publicly traded on NASDAQ (NASDAQ: ZOOM). The Zoom Web Site is www.zoomtel.com
