Zoom Announces Major Success in U.K. Market
Availability of 56K faxmodems
generates increased market demand
Boston, MA, December 17, 1997 - Zoom Telephonics, a
leading manufacturer of faxmodems and other computer communications
equipment, today announced significant new distribution in
the UK market. In the past two months Zoom has reached sales
agreements with Argos, Byte Computer Superstores, Dixons,
and Tandy stores - four of the largest and best-known computer
retail chains in the UK. In addition Action Catalogue, the
largest mail order computer reseller in the UK, is currently
featuring Zoom modems. "We are seeing a strong
increase in the demand for Zoom faxmodems in the UK,"
said Frank Manning, Zoom's President and CEO. "We attribute
this growth to a significantly expanded product line for the
UK and a new sales office in Chelmsford, England. Previously
approved products such as 33.6 Kbps faxmodems and newer products
including our award-winning 56K faxmodem line have attracted
the attention of both resellers and end-users. Our UK customers
also appreciate the fact that we handle shipments and returns
from a European warehouse, and have a European technical support
center based in the UK. We will soon begin shipping to the
UK the new full-color live-motion Zoom/Video™ Cam, whichplugs
into an included ISA capture card or a jack in the Zoom/FaxModem56K
internal voice/faxmodem." In November Tandy began
selling Zoom products in 157 of its top stores in the UK.
Byte Computer Superstores began offering Zoom products in
late November in all of its 16 superstores. The Dixons Stores
Group is stocking Zoom's 56K internal and external faxmodems
in its 40 PC World Stores and is listing them in the PC World
Business Direct catalog. Argos, the UK's largest reseller
of electrical products, will feature Zoom products in the
January 1998 issue of its catalog, which has a circulation
of 36 million and is distributed to seven out of every 10
households in the UK. "Zoom's presence in these
retailers is dramatically boosting our exposure in the UK,"
said Ron Murphy, Zoom's International Sales Manager. "In
addition, we have established a strong working relationship
with Northamber, one of the biggest distributors in the UK,
as well as other distributors who complement Northamber's
efforts." Zoom Telephonics designs, produces,
and markets faxmodems, ISDN products, and other products that
link people and their personal computers through the world's
largest network, the international telephone network, and
connected networks including the Internet and corporate local
area networks. Zoom products are produced in Boston, Massachusetts
and sold worldwide. Zoom Telephonics is publicly traded on
Nasdaq (NASDAQ: ZOOM).
