ZoomAir Bridge
Model 4130

The ZoomAir Wireless LAN-to-LAN Bridge Kit Model 4130 is a complete solution, with all components necessary to maintain a connection between two Local Area Networks (LANs). The Model 4130 includes two ZoomAir Wireless LAN-to-LAN Bridge Radio Units, two ZoomAir High-Gain (13.0 dBi) Directional Antennas, and all cables, mounting hardware and software needed for installation and configuration. ZoomAir wireless networking products operate in the unlicensed 2.4 GHZ radio spectrum and conform to the IEEE 802.11b standard.

The ZoomAir Wireless LAN-to-LAN Bridge provides a money-saving alternative to other solutions between two distant locations anywhere a line-of-sight connection can be established within the bridge's range. The Model 4130 provides high performance, with an unobstructed line-of-sight range of up to 2.5 miles (enough to span the Grand Canyon) at a data rate of 5.5 Mbps. Data security is provided by ZoomAir's enhanced 128-bit RC4 and 64-bit WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption.

Program Files

The firmware of the ZoomAir Bridge unit can be upgraded through Webmanage or through the Console Port. Depending on which method you select, you must download the appropriate file(s) and follow the instructions.

Webmanage Method (Bridge Binary 2.3.8) (.exe file) Webmanage uses this binary file to upgrade the ZoomAir Bridge unit to the latest firmware. This file will upgrade both the system and boot images of the unit.
You must do the following to update the file:

  1. Go to Webmanage, select Maintenance, Update and then the file (BB_2.3.8_binary_download.rom)
  2. After it finishes running, you must restart to begin using the updated image

The Console Port uses the above files to upgrade the ZoomAir Bridge to the latest firmware. A terminal program such as HyperTerminal in Windows that supports Zmodem file transfers is necessary. To update the ZoomAir Bridge unit going through the Console Port, you must do the following:

  1. Connect the RJ45 to RJ45 serial cable that is supplied to the console port on the ZoomAir Bridge and the other end to a serial port on a system. (A DB9 to RJ45 is supplied with the ZoomAir Bridge).
  2. Set up the terminal program (HyperTerminal or any program that supports Zmodem file transfer) for 38400 and N, 8,1. X/on-X/off handshaking should also be selected.
  3. When you power on the ZoomAir Bridge, you should see information scrolling on the terminal screen. "Type Boot to Bypass Main Image" will appear.
  4. Type the word "boot". Which will cause the ZoomAir Bridge to go into the boot screen.
  5. At the end of the process, the message "Waiting for Code Upload" will appear.
  6. Start the file transfer using Zmodem protocol and load the file BB_Boot_x2.3.8.rom.
  7. Do not interrupt the upload or power off the ZoomAir Bridge during the process. This will cause the unit to be inoperable and necessitate it to be returned for repair.
  8. After the boot image upload is complete, continue with the second upload of the system image file BB_Main_x2.3.8.rom.
